Variety Testing Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Mission
- To serve Nebraska farmers by providing the best available information and tools to select the best performing hybrid/variety to grow under sustainable levels of management inputs and greater margin of profit.
- Contribute to the efforts of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in solving the agricultural problems of Nebraska through research and outreach.
- Promote efficient crop production, water and natural resource conservation.
Purpose
The need of Nebraska farmers (producers) with regard to hybrid/variety is to identify the best variety or hybrid for their individual operation. To address this need the Variety Testing Program at the University of Nebraska conducts extensive hybrid and variety testing on:
- corn,
- soybeans,
- wheat,
- sorghum,
- alfalfa, and,
limited testing on - oat,
- canola,
- sunflower.
The data collected from the variety trials are made available to producers through published reports as well as through the Variety Testing Web site.
Varieties/hybrids are compared across years and location when possible.
