College of Business faculty, staff and students recognized for recent achievements include Paula Caldwell, Dr. Alok Kumar, Laura Niles, Katie Sewell, Dr. Troy Smith, Celeste Spier and Ashley Wegener.
- Paula Caldwell, career coach for the Business Career Center,and Katie Sewell, assistant director of career development and planning, presented “Amplifying Student Voices: Leveraging Assessment to Inform Course Design" at the university's first Assessment & Impact Summit. Their talk shared how they successfully leveraged quantitative and qualitative data collected through extensive pre- and post-course assessment of Career Development & Planning (BSAD 222) to make strategic decisions regarding course content and instruction methods to increase student engagement.
- Dr. Alok Kumar, associate professor of marketing, was elected as the at-large associate professor representative on the college’s Promotion and Tenure Committee. The committee makes recommendations to the dean regarding the awarding or denial of continuous appointments (tenure), and promotion to associate and full professor and associate and full professor of practice.
- Laura Niles, external relations director in Communications, Marketing and External Relations, received the college’s Dean’s Coin. Presented to individuals who have gone above and beyond to help others in the College of Business, she was nominated for her work this academic year in creating event planning processes, event best practices and building policies. She was also recognized for leading and engaging with more than 75 guided tours of the new Howard L. Hawks Hall to visitors, alumni and business partners.
- Dr. Troy Smith, assistant professor of management, was elected as the at-large tenure-track representative to the college’s General Committee, which serves as an advisory board to the dean on matters such as overall goals and objectives of the college, program priorities, budget allocations and more.
- Celeste Spier, assistant director for career and professional development in the Business Career Center, presented “Assessing with Purpose: Strategic Planning as a Framework for Assessment" at the university’s first Assessment & Impact Summit. Her presentation discussed how to use an annual strategic planning process to create a purposeful and comprehensive plan for assessment of programs and services.
- Ashley Wegener, program coordinator and academic advisor in Business Advising and Student Engagement, received the Region Six Excellence in Advising – Advisor Primary Role Award from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). At the NACADA regional convention, she also presented “Navigating Foreign Lands: How Advisors Can Use Cultural Mentoring to Guide Students in Higher Education.”
