The College of Business hosts Open House Night for prospective students and their families to learn more about studying business at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

High school juniors, seniors and their families are invited to the College of Business Open House Night on Monday, Oct. 23, 6-7:30 p.m. The event held at Howard L. Hawks Hall offers an informal setting to explore business majors and facilities.

Porter Unruh attended last year's Open House Night and met many current students, faculty and staff, and left excited about his future at the College of Business.

"Visiting campuses is so important when making a college decision. Traditional campus visit hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. are not feasible for all families, especially those with students in AP classes, sports or the band. Parents are also busy with their work schedules and other commitments," said Kendra Ritchie, associate director of recruitment. "We wanted to be more accessible, so a few years ago we started to offer this opportunity for families to come and see the college at a time that works better for them."

Attendees can talk one-on-one with staff and current students about their academic and career interests, including learning more about the 11 business majors at Nebraska. Beyond learning about programs in actuarial science, marketing to entrepreneurship, attendees can learn more about the college's unique hands-on career development program and tour Hawks Hall, the state-of-the-art home of the College of Business since 2017.

"You'll see where you will spend time studying, collaborating, building friendships and making core memories," said Ritchie. "We can also answer any questions about student involvement opportunities and admission, scholarship and financial aid information."

Porter Unruh, a freshman business administration major from Lincoln, Nebraska, attended Open House Night last year. Working part-time and playing basketball, he made the time to attend the evening event and connected with people and resources to make his college decision easier.

"The college search is ridiculously confusing, and these events make it so much better. You shouldn't feel intimidated because everyone is in the same boat as you, and they are having this event specifically for networking and to help you feel less intimidated," he said. "I knew it would be informative and help me get started learning about what college would be like, but it also gave me an opportunity to meet great people. It was nice to have a familiar face at all the business events after that and even now."
