With a large majority of students spending well-deserved time away in the summer, the campus seemingly takes on a new pace after Commencement. Yet, behind the scenes, there's a different kind of hustle happening.
Our faculty and staff are working with their colleagues, industry leaders, community partners, alumni and prospective and current students. Whether collaborating on research, leading education abroad trips to England, Italy and Spain, or preparing for our free summer high school programs like Discover Accounting in May and Discover Actuarial Science and DREAMBIG Academy in June, they work together to continue to lead the future of business.
Featured in this newsletter are stories of partnerships, connections and collaboration:
- A partnership with Scooters Coffee led to the creation of a new advanced franchising course that will be offered next spring at Nebraska.
- Our colleagues at Texas A&M University and the University of Georgia recently noted that Nebraska jumped to No. 19 in their management research productivity rankings.
- One of our recent graduates, Mariano Azurduy, shared how Nebraska got him from Bolivia to Wall Street. This included connecting with faculty and staff, completing internships and being part of the Investing With Purpose course featuring industry leaders in finance sharing their insight in class and over dinner with students.
- Our collaboration with generous donors led to six high school graduates from across Nebraska receiving the first Future of Nebraska scholarships, totaling $30,000. The new scholarship program is funded by UnitedHealthcare, News Channel Nebraska and University of Nebraska supporters Beth and John Godbout of Paradise Valley, Arizona, as well as an anonymous donor.
Working together with those across campus, our student services staff and designated faculty are currently helping prospective students and their families during the university's New Student Enrollment. Held nearly every day throughout June and early July, they showcase all Nebraska has to offer while bringing in the next generation of Huskers who start this fall.
Speaking of Huskers and connections, make sure to join us for the Nebraska Business Tailgate on Saturday, November 2, at Howard L. Hawks Hall. RSVP here. We'd love to see you again.
Go Big Red!
