Dr. Amanda Gonzales joined the College of Business in 2013 after receiving her Ph.D. in accounting from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She is a native Nebraskan, earning a master's degree in professional accountancy from UNL and her bachelor’s degree in professional accounting and mathematics at Hastings College. She is passionate about helping her students discover and realize their potential. Dr. Gonzales researches topics related to financial reporting and corporate governance. Before going to graduate school at Duke, Gonzales worked at the Financial Accounting Standards Board in Norwalk, Connecticut and was a project manager at the International Accounting Standards Board in London, U.K.

Undergraduate Courses

Accounting Research and Communication (ACCT 455) - This course focuses on improvisation, professional writing, and professional presentations in a variety of accounting-related settings. Using the principles of applied improv, students will learn to increase their listening and collaboration skills, foster trust and innovation, and be able to adapt and engage in the moment - all tapping into the crucial assets of a great and inclusive leader. Students will also apply best practices for critical thinking and written communication to identify accounting issues and develop, justify, and communicate solutions with clarity, conciseness, and professionalism. The course culminates with students providing professional quality presentations and written deliverables to local accounting professionals.
