Dr. Tammie J. Fischer is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Economics at UNL as well as the Director of the UNL Center for Economic Education.

Dr. Fischer leads the UNL Center in its mission to increase economic and financial literacy through instruction, curriculum development, and research.  At the undergraduate level, Dr. Fischer teaches courses on the principles of macroeconomics and microeconomics.  She also provides economics instruction to elementary, middle and secondary teachers in the form of graduate-credit courses and non-credit workshops and professional development.  Her research interests include economic and financial education, curriculum and instruction and the economics of education.

As an economic education consultant at the local, state and national levels on issues such as economics course development and instruction, Dr. Fischer provides her content expertise on the development and assessment of the state and national voluntary standards in economics. Locally, she has assisted school districts with the improvement of economics instruction including course development and the creation and implementation of the elementary In School Savings Program.  

Dr. Fischer has authored and co-authored many curriculum guides for educators consisting of classroom-ready lessons to assist in the teaching of economics and personal finance to students of all ages and continues to make presentations on her work at the Center for Economic Education at local, state, national, and international conferences.
